Sunday Sevens #42

Sunday again already? Where did THAT week go?!

Time for #sundaysevens then, a round up of your week in seven photos as thought up by Nat at Threads & Bobbins. Click here to find out more and join in – everyone’s welcome!

1. This arrived from Amazon – soon to be translated into Christmas presents for two little girls.

2. Crochet night at a friend’s house, accompanied by Prosecco and homemade raspberry vodka.

3. Amber, our hen with the broken leg, is feeling better. She wanted to go outside and spent a happy hour pecking away and dust bathing.

4. Then the others came over and started bullying her, the way hens do when one of their flock is injured.

She was pecked on the wattle and head quite badly before we saw the attack. I brought her inside again and now we only let her out to scratch around while the others are cooped up.

Trouble is, hens get depressed without other hens for company. We solve this issue by leaving the french windows slightly ajar so she can ‘talk’ to them in safety. They chirrup away quite happily to each other!

She has progressed from hopping on one leg to limping on two, so we are hopeful that she will recover enough to reunite her with the rest of the flock in a few weeks, when she is strong enough to stand up for herself and peck back!

5. The next three month’s supplies were delivered from Minerva Crafts for the Blogger’s Network!

Just look at that pile of Aran yarn waiting to be transformed into something magical – I’ve got until mid October to complete this project but I’m not sure if that’s going to be enough time!

6. Ah, a lovely liqueur coffee brought to me by the wonderful Mr H-L while I was watching my favourite new discovery, “The Suspicions Of Mr Whicher”. He knows the way to my heart!

7. It’s finished! My fuschia linen dress that will be blogged about soon.

That’s it for this week – next week I’m in Cornwall with the girls, celebrating the first one of our group to reach fifty. No, not me – I’ve got three years to go yet.

It’s going to be a messy week…..!

  1. So sorry to hear Amber’s still struggling. Hope she’s strong enough very soon to return to the flock. The doll book looks good – I may have to buy that. And great to see the fuchsia pink fabric has turned into something. Really looking forward to seeing what it is. 🙂 Have a wonderful time in Cornwall – of course if you’re close to the Devon boarder, I’ll probably hear you from here 😉

  2. Your linens are all stunning colours. Poor Amber. My aunt had one with a broken leg once and my uncle splinted it with a split wooden clothes peg taped on with insulation tape. She outlasted all the other hens. Amazing. Have a great holiday K xXx

  3. So much easier to crochet rather than knit whilst drinking Prosecco. At least you don’t have to put the hook down! Sounds like you’ve had a lovely week, but next week I think will be more interesting!! What’s your tipple in your liquor coffee? I love Cointreau in mine but I’ve never trained the hubby in how to make one.
Hope you have an amazing week!! 🍷🎉Ching Ching

  6. Yay! I see inspirations did strike, can’t wait to see 😉 Poor Amber…you don’t think she is encouraging the ‘mob’ to rough her up a bit..just so she can stay a house hen?? LOL! Have a great time with your friends – keep plenty of pegs handy – to dry out on the washing line when you get back 😀 then, I’m sure you’ll want to get your teeth into all your new goodies!

    • Cock is really rough with his girls – he’s managed to kill two healthy hens overnight in the nest box so I’m keeping a close eye on Amber as she’s my favourite. I’m thinking we’ll need a holiday to get over this holiday:)

  7. Interesting book from Amazon ~ just the thing for your nimble fingers. Will look forward to seeing what you make from it, and the Minerva bundle. How great to have crochet mates! Do hope your Amber recovers. Have a lovely time this week with your mates!

    • The plan is to make EVERYTHING in the book which is why I’m doubting the October deadline! Crochet buddies are great to have – we get together once a month. Weather is set to be scorching this week, so it looks like we’ve picked a good one to go away:)

  8. Oh my those meanies really worked Amber over. I didn’t know chickens could be so vicious. I hope she gets better soon. 😦 Boy you got a nice bag of inspiration from Minerva. I can’t wait to see what you get going. Knowing my luck I would draw a blank. LOL I would so love to have a couple of girlfriends just sit around and crochet with. That is my kind of fun. Enjoy Sheila … lots of hugs to you and the family. xxxx

    • A few mums from the school have become good friends – two of them in the photo are the ones I went to Yarndale with and we have a craft night once a month. The Minerva goodies are going to be made into crochet dolls, a dress and a tee pee….sshh, don’t tell anyone!

  10. Your poor hen. One of our budgies (the girl) has started bullying one of the boys! A bit of rivalry over pecking order going on. If he gets on the top perch she get hold of his tail with her beak and pulls him off!! Last week she had him by the wing feathers and as he tried to get free she ripped a couple of feathers out and tore his skin. We isolated her for a day and she is behaving a bit better now!! I never realised birds had so much character!
Your crochet night sounds fun and I love the doll book! Have a great week. x

    • Nature can be a cruel thing and I wonder whether I should intervene, but Amber deserves a chance – she is such a strong hen. Don’t know much about budgies but they sound pretty much the same! Hope they sort it out:)
