Giveaways And Giving Back

I knitted an egg this morning before No.1 Son had crawled out from his hungover slumber just after midday.

Yup, you heard right – I knitted an egg.

Knitted egg

It took an hour and a half of knitting on 2.25mm needles with leftover sock yarn to finish this tiny creation, which was supposed to be sent flat to be filled with a polystyrene egg by the recipient.

Knitted egg progress

Trouble was, I didn’t have the required 2.75mm needles or a tension gauge to refer to so it probably wouldn’t fit. I stuffed it with fibre fill instead, and popped it in the post.

The deadline was “Autumn”, the first day of which is 21st September so, although I’ve had this on my to-do list since early July, it’s still in time. Forty are needed to give to children next Easter according to Claire’s original post. How’s the tally going Claire? Do you need any more? Look out for this little parcel in the next day or two:)

Parcel

Talking of parcels, this one arrived a few days ago – I LOVE getting parcels in the post, even if I already know what’s going to be inside. Is anybody else like that?

This was a yarn related giveaway from Sharon who blogs at Creativity and Family.

The ‘wrapping paper’ was printed patchwork cotton fabric and the ‘gift tag’ was a cute little chalkboard with my name on it.

There was a handwritten note inside saying that Sharon had also included some sweets for The Boys. How thoughtful!

This is what the parcel contained. What a spread!

P1060391

Shall I show you in more detail?

This lovely book which has so many great crochet projects to inspire.

P1060400

I’m rather liking the look of this boxy cardigan to start with.

P1060403

Two balls of Debblie Bliss ‘Milano’, a tweed effect yarn with 40% wool.

P1060395

These gorgeous little stork embroidery scissors with attached miniature crocheted cat – a sweet reference to the competition which I won with the cat’s name “Whiskers”.

P1060389

All of this will fit in the pretty Cath Kidston project bag.

I’ve already started making a tweedy hat for one of The Boys.

I’ve just found out that I’ve won another giveaway too, this time a Hallowe’en fabric bundle from Nat at Threads and Bobbins.

Hallowe'en bundle

I can’t wait to get stuck into that little lot – any ideas what I could make?

If you cast your mind back to July, I won another giveaway, this one from Amy at Yarnaway, containing all this: –

I made a crocheted rib beanie from the multi-tonal yarn…..

Hat

….and a pair of bobble fingerless gloves from the beautiful book that was included in the giveaway.

Bobble gloves

I’ve still got a whole ball of yarn left to use myself, so I thought I’d pass forward some of this generosity by hosting another giveaway.

If you would like to win the beanie and matching gloves either for yourself or maybe to give as a Christmas present, just leave a comment below.

A winner will be picked out of the hat as usual (no ‘random number generators’ on this blog!) after midnight on Wednesday 16th September.

Good luck!

  1. Aw thank you! It’s for an Easter Egg hunt in Wells. You’ll have to bring your boys. We have about 15 (we need 40!) but I haven’t got going on truly churning them out yet. 😉

  2. I thought I might make an egg or two for Claire and have discovered zero time to do this – and poor thing, I see she has not many! yours is great! Isn’t it so nice that you have been winning give aways – they are such fun! I have a pair of those stork scissors courtesy of the lovely Phil at the Twisted Yarn and they are my pride and joy. The beanie and mitts are gorgeous and if I were lucky enough to win them, I’d wear them myself 🙂

  4. Lovely knitted egg. Reminds me of a time when I knitted lots of little bobble hats for the smoothie people and then couldn’t bear to part with all of them! I had a feeling you would be well ahead with your gift making! Well done on all those prizes! The hat and gloves look very cosy.

  5. Love the egg!! So cute! And how nice for her to include sweets in the package😀 You are very lucky, I never ever win giveaways and I’ve never won one, which is disappointing, but true. I’ll enter this one, if you don’t mind, and we’ll see…this is a lovely beanie!

  7. I would love the prizes to wear my self. I really wish I could crochet and knit. Tried several times but just end up with uneven bumpy pieces! I will just stick to the seeing I think. I too love receiving parcels through the post especially buttons, fabric and beads to use.

  10. Have you bought a lottery ticket lately – I think you should 😉 No need to put me in the draw. Not that they’re not lovely, but I really should be knitting/crocheting my own 🙂

Our son doesn’t even need the excuse of a hangover to sleep in beyond midday when he comes back from uni LOL 😀 Hoping your lucky streak continues for your weekend lottery ticket!!! 😉

    • Thanks and I know what you mean about lads, although mine starts a proper graduate job on Monday so will have to get used to early starts. If my ticket comes up, there will be a REALLY good giveaway next time!

  15. Sheila, congratulations on these wonderful wins! I’m really impressed with the way you immediately set to work using the yarns.

I love the crocheted egg! Adorable. I haven’t followed the link yet to see what it’s all about, but hope others like you will fill that basket of joy.

    • Thank you – yarn doesn’t sit for long in my basket, I’m always impatient to get started and see what it looks like made up:)

      • That would make a great tag line: Yarn doesn’t sit long in my basket! I love that. And after puttering around on your site yesterday, I now know where Sewchet came from. Clever you.

      • PS My Folksy package arrived and everything was as beautiful as I imagined. I told my husband I wanted a dress out of the wallet fabric, but it was lost on him. It’s so rough he said. So then maybe a jacket!

      • I’m glad you’re pleased with everything – I hope your friend is too. The wallet fabric is actually wonderfully soft, perfect for a dress, it was interfaced for the wallet to make it stiff. Thank you so much for buying from my shop – it’s always a thrill when I get a ‘sold’ message in my inbox:)

  17. Parcels are wonderfully exciting and when they contain lovely thoughtful gifts, even more so. I tried to crochet a beanie over a year ago but had to keep undoing it, then I lost interest but maybe I ought to have another go. There’s also a half done Miette cardigan looking reproachfully at me from a basket. That’s been on th go for a couple of years, *sigh*. Your productivity is amazing. I like that boxy cardigan btw.

    • I can’t just sit and talk/watch TV, I get itchy fingers and have to knit or crochet in the evenings. Not sure a boxy cardigan will suit my shape so will probably make it as a gift.
