#sundaysevens is a weekly blog series devised by Nat at Threads & Bobbins whereby you show seven photos of your week that may not be worthy of a blog post on their own.
Yes, I realise it’s now Monday and, yes, I know I can’t count……
- Mr. H-L wouldn’t dream of doing this in our London flat – go out to fetch the eggs in his dressing gown and wellies!
2. Working from home country-style; still in his dressing gown and in front of a blazing fire in the kitchen. Well, our home office isn’t anything like as cosy!
3. Of course, working from home has other benefits, not least of which is having still-hot-from-the-oven Dorset Apple Cake and cream served up to you at regular intervals throughout the day.
4. The next day, while their father hopped on the train to London, The Boys played “Going To Work” with an old laptop and keyboard – they even unearthed a couple of ancient mobile phones that hadn’t been recycled for whatever reason. The Boys decided to dress properly, choosing shirts and trousers over PJs.
Just like Daddy – how cute!
5. The Boys had a Fun Day at the stables. When asked what they had done they said, “Riding ponies and cleaning up poo – it was brilliant!”
6. A family day out to Exeter museum (RAAM) which The Boys LOVED. Museums are far more fun nowadays, most having lots of interactive things to do to bring history alive. There was a xylophone in the African department which they thoroughly enjoyed playing with.
7. In the park next to the museum, at the foot of the old Roman wall, lay a homeless man, fast asleep in his sleeping bag.
After explaining to a curious No.2 Son what being homeless meant, he burst into tears at the horror of it. Living ‘the good life’ in a tiny hamlet means The Boys live a pretty sheltered life and this dose of reality hit him hard.
We tucked some money inside his sleeping bag for him to find when he wakes up.
8. Number eight already? Sorry, please bear with me – only a few more to go!
Popped into Ottery St. Mary garden centre on the way home. The Boys loved all the Christmas displays – this one was outside at the entrance setting the scene for what’s inside.
9. Despite the busy week (remember the half term sewing camps?) I did manage to fit in a little bit of sewing.
In the words of Rolf Harris “Can you guess what it is yet?”
C’mon, admit it – you just said that in an Australian accent, didn’t you?!
10. Last one – honest!
My ‘Blogger of the month’ feature in Craftseller magazine. You should be able to click on the image for a larger version if you want to read it.
The Boys have an inset day today so we’re going to a friend’s for lunch but, for those of you back to school – only 35 more school days until Christmas!!!

What an ace week, and to top it all that fab centre spread! Your boys are lovely, it’s hard when they see the other side of his life can be. H likes to watch Jeremy Kyle which had definitely opened his eyes, and at least he knows what will happened to his teeth if he doesn’t brush them! 😳

Luckily The Boys are still young enough to be restricted to 30 minutes screen time – goodness knows what they’d make of Jeremy Kyle!

I know there is a school of thought that suggests you should donate food or clothes but, if you’re living rough and a drink helps you cope mentally (or forget your worries for a while), then who am I to judge?

Congratulations on being a featured blogger! You have the most adorable family and are raising some very compassionate young men. And it’s funny, my sis and I just yesterday were talking about we “read” with the accent of the writer!

Their daddy is secretly thrilled that they like to emulate him I think, and it’s hard not to giggle when you listen to them re-enacting overheard work conversations on their ‘phones:)

It was busy (as usual!) and we had down time at home too, which is always nice – what’s better than the odd pyjama day? I hadn’t realised quite how sensitive my boys were until No.2 Son’s reaction to the homeless man.

What a lovely week you had ~ thank you for sharing with us! And thanks also for putting in that article, which was easy to read – enjoyed it! Wonderful sewing room up there, light and airy and restful. Have a great week, now your lads are back in school.

Thanks Del, Glad you liked the article, I was pleasantly surprised with it too. I have to admit to sewing by the open fire in the kitchen at the moment – the draw of cosy flames is hard to resist:)

It is hard not to laugh out loud when they are playing “Work” – they even copy the conversations they’ve overheard which is so comical, especially as they have no idea what it means!

Your boys at the garden centre made me realise how much I miss the days when my two were small and so in awe at the festive displays. Great week once more and a brilliant feature in the magazine 🙂

Thanks, I was really pleased with the feature – the reason I now have a profile photo for this blog is because my husband had to take this one especially for the magazine:)

Awesome post. Congratulations on being featured. Lovely to see.
Poor homeless man, makes me sad as well. Thank goodness for kindhearted people as well.
Your husband was funny indeed. Loved the photo of him at the laptop and on the phone. 🙂 He can even multi-task.
Great week and great photos. All the best with the “bunny” Looks to cute. Looking forward to seeing it sewn up.

Thanks very much, I am quietly chuffed with the magazine spread, I have to say. Mr H-L is indeed funny – not sure it’s a good thing that The Boys like to emulate him as much as they do?!

Congratulations on being featured in the magazine!!! You deserve that and more! I can’t stop telling you what an inspiration your blog is for me!
How hard it is to explain what poverty is…? If I had a child I don’t know if I would be able to….

Aw, you say such sweet things, thank you! Trouble is with kids, you’re never sure how much they understand. No.2 Son understood to a degree and felt very sad for the homeless man, although he couldn’t get his head around the fact that there was no help available or family to live with. Very sad indeed.

Sweet child! Sensitivity is a hard feeling but that is what makes us humans! And when it comes from a child it reminds me how much of it I have lost on the road… Say thanks to your no. 2 son for me,please ❤

The apple cake (+ cream) sounds AMAZING! It sounds like an interesting conversation about the homeless man – I’ve done some work on a project relating to this in the past and it’s so interesting and upsetting to find out how people end up on the streets. The blogger feature looks brilliant – well done ☺️

It’s a lovely recipe, maybe I’ll share it on the blog one day. The stories behind the reasons people end up homeless are almost as varied as the people themselves. Very sad, never more so than at this time of year and The Boys couldn’t imagine being so completely alone and vulnerable. It certainly made them think!

Boy what a lovely week. I love the pics of the boys with the horses. I love how dapper they dress tp be just like dad. They are so cute and you can tell they stock full of manners taught to them by mom and dad. The youngest has such a soft heart. Seeing the homeless man just rocked my heart too. congrats on the mag article. You rock girlie!! Christmas is fast approaching! I came across so many cool things I think the boys would really enjoy at Mary Maxim catalog. I will email ya to see what you think,.
Lots of love to you and the family!

Thanks Robin, The Boys would love their own ponies one day so I’ve just gone ‘back to school’ to learn all about them too! I got back on a horse for the first time since I fell in Spain – that was a nerve-wracking moment, I can tell you, but I was fine. The Boys now know where all the food we donate to ‘The Lord’s Larder’ goes (a charity that gives to the homeless and poor). A harsh dose of reality though, hence the tears:)
