Sunday Sevens is a weekly blog series where you show seven-ish photos of your week. Visit Nat at Threads & Bobbins to find out how YOU can join in.
- We took The Boys to a local farm to choose our Christmas Tree. Don’t you just love the farmer’s hat with tractors on it?
2. The tree stood in the corner of the dining room for a couple of days before we had time to do anything with it ( I was sewing). In the end the men put it up in the corner of the lounge.
3. Another day passed before No.1 Son realised it wasn’t going to decorate itself so got into his Santa Onesie and did it by himself (whilst I carried on sewing…..)
4. No.3 Son decorated the little ‘fake’ tree that we put up in the kitchen room each year whilst dressed up in a Prince’s outfit, as you do.
Meanwhile, I did some sewing.
5. Remember those Angel costumes I made last week for The Boy’s Nativity? We went to said production on Tuesday. What you can see in the photo is the ENTIRE school which amounts to 100 kids aged 4-11.
6. One of the activities in the advent calendar was to get into PJs and drive around looking at the Christmas lights.
7. The Boys took flasks of hot chocolate and I took a glass of Bailey’s:)
8. On Wednesday I started my ball gown for Mr H-L’s annual company ‘do’.
The ‘do’ was two days later.
There were 78 pattern pieces.
It took me over three hours just to cut it out…..
9. My Thursday class finished their skirts in time for Christmas and were VERY pleased with themselves!
10. I was also very pleased with MYSELF as I finished the dress with an hour to spare on Friday morning. Here it is all lined and ready for the corset to be sewn in.
11. Hubby and I drove the two and a half hours to Stanhill Court Hotel where the company puts us all up overnight and where the party is held.
12. Here’s a sneak peek of my dress laid out ready on the bed.
13. We stopped at the services on the way home to rehydrate after the previous night’s excesses. A brass band was playing Christmas carols for charity so we sat outside and enjoyed the music for a while.
14. This morning I’m getting on with the last of my #stitchingsanta gifts which involves glue and……
……more sewing!!!

Yes, nothing but sewing – hubby did all the cooking and they all did most of the decorating which I’ll finish off when I’ve finished sewing! I’ll try to blog about the dress tomorrow:)

It was a very productive week although the housework took a back seat so we’ll all muck in to do that this week:)

Well, I don’t have to stop and read the instructions in detail because I kind of know to do it anyway. It’s just a case of putting your head down and going for it!

Well, I had a month or so to make it but just never found the time to get started – something else was always more pressing. There was an anxious moment when I thought I’d have to wear one I’d worn before, though:)

Thanks Cathy, a dress like that is always a wonderful challenge. I was asked to do a screen test for the first GBSB but turned it down for various reasons:)

We love staying at this hotel – I’ve got a few more photos to show when I blog about the dress, too, hopefully tomorrow. There are four layers to the dress which accounts for all the pieces – the dress, the lining, the foundation and the foundation lining:)

The funny thing is that the dress looks quite simple from the outside – it’s all the hidden construction that accounts for a lot of it. I don’t do shows that have a judging panel – hence my turning it down:)

It’s a good job you have all those men on hand to sort things out whilst you finished up all your projects! Your gown is a beautiful shade I’m sure you had a great evening 🙂

It gradually dawned on them that I really wasn’t going to do it all so they had no choice other than to help out! It was a lovely dress to wear, very comfortable and I felt very secure despite being unable to wear a bra. Happy Christmas!

I love both of the trees. Decorated they both are just precious. Can’t wait to see a pic of the gown. With 78 pcs I bet it turned out spectacular.Getting to stay over night sounds wonderful. The bed looks like something out of the Victorian period. Sounds like you had a fantastic week,

It is a Victorian Manor House and most of the furniture is of the same period – I will show some more photos shortly. They did a grand job with the trees, didn’t they? I didn’t have to change a thing:)

Your dress looks fabulous, I can’t wait to see more of it. Well done to the boys cracking on and getting the trees decorated, they look wonderful. We all left the decorating to Mick this year, not that he was pleased about it but he got it done. What talented students you have, the skirts are fabulous.

It can be hard to delegate because we (women in general) tend to think we can do things like this better, but there are only so many hours in a day and any help is jumped at, at this late stage! The students are learning quickly but are also impatient and need slowing down to get the finish neater. They’re doing brilliantly though and I’m so proud of them:)

We didn’t take any photos at the party but hubby did take one in our room beforehand, so at least there is one of me wearing it! Being a teacher yourself you will understand how satisfying it is to see students so proud of their achievements – I’m very proud of them, too:)

What with hubby dressing up as Catherine Zeta Jones last week, the boys in the family love their costumes! Hopefully I’ll find time to blog today but MUST finish the #stitchingsanta parcels first as last post is today! What were you doing up so early anyway? School’s out!

So much news you’ve had to share. Your dress is gorgeous. That’s a whole lot of pieces to put together in such a short amount of time, but clearly you were up to the task.
I love the photos of your children in costume decorating the tree. My boys aren’t into it anymore, and I was still having trouble standing when we set it up, so initial the lower quarter was decorated. That was what I could reach sitting down.
I hope you’ll post a photo of you wearing the dress. And that room! What elegance. Thanks for the weekly roundup.

We’re two hundred miles South of all the floods and are fine down here – I haven’t heard how those up North are faring, I’m afraid. I, personally, don’t know of anyone affected but the situation is quite extreme and pretty dreadful. Thanks for your thoughts:)

Thank you, Sheila! Know you’re well out of this, but we’ve so much going on over here there’s not been that much about all your northern flooding. Have gotten a “Like” from Ali since writing, and hope she’s alright. Might even have been called in to work. But if you hear from anyone, do let us know. xx
