Sunday Sevens is a weekly blog series devised by Nat at Threads & Bobbins whereby you share seven photos of your week. It’s a great way to keep blogging when you don’t have enough for a full blog post and we all get to know a bit more about the person behind the blog. Simple!
- Earlier this week I finally had the surgery that had been cancelled on New Year’s Eve because they lost my notes. All went well and I even managed to cast on another bobble hat!
2. This gorgeous bouquet arrived “on behalf of all your friends in North Cheriton” – how lovely?
3. Home alone for lunch, this is my favourite way to use up ripe avocados.
4. Three down, two to go……it seems that everyone now wants a pom pom hat!
5. I WILL make time to transform this fabulous Alpaco/Silk laceweight yarn into a Summer cardigan in time for Spain in May.
This is the pattern I’m using which you can download for free at Artesano.
6. Mr H-L and I went for a pub lunch in The Nog Inn, Wincanton. The dogs instantly curled up in front of the wood burner. I made Mr H-L put his lovely wool coat on the flagstones for them to lie on:)
7. These camouflage trousers are a sample to show my eight year old boys what they will be making after they finish their back packs. Do you think flap pockets are a bit ambitious for a second-ever sewing project? That’s the great thing about kids – if you tell them they can do it, they believe you and just get on with it!
8. You haven’t seen one for a while, so here’s a typical lesson underway. There are usually four in each class, but sickness has claimed a few recently.
9. Saturday morning and these two landed on the doormat! Time for a break.
10. Brunch this morning. Don’t even think about mentioning the rights or wrongs of wine before midday. And who has heard the latest about black pudding being considered a superfood? Yay, recognition at last!

That looks like my kind of breakfast!
Those hats are gorgeous – the colours are so pretty and I’m not surprised everybody wants one.
So pleased your hospital ordeal is over – how horrible it must have been when they cancelled it before as I expect you will have been psyching yourself up for it and then had to do it all over again.

You really can’t beat a full English breakfast! My 23 year old son even wants a hat, albeit without the Pom Pom, in a questionable shade of green. I was a day patient, thank goodness, so didn’t have to stay overnight. Mind you, knowing how busy life is back home, maybe that wasn’t such a blessing!!

Yes, it even has a pretty name – “French Rose”and actually matches the roses in my bouquet almost exactly. For many people it would be too bright but, when you get colours that vibrant in nature, why not embrace them in clothes, too?

Yes, it is, isn’t it? “French Rose” says it all really. The trousers will definitely be a challenge for little boys but I’m sure they’ll rise to it. Photos will follow when complete!

I know – who knew they’d be so popular? Even No.1 Son wants one, in green for some reason, but without the Pom Pom. I’m thoroughly enjoying the sewing lessons. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to them. Maybe I missed my vocation earlier in life and should have become a teacher? Better late than never and at least I get the fun of teaching without all the paperwork and marking:)

Certainly the best parts of teaching!
I’ve seem loads of bobble hats at the school gates on other Mums, must be a bumper year for them 🙂

I had to share the pattern, it’s the perfect cover up for Summer, isn’t it? Loose enough to skim over my lumps and bumps but still cool in the heat at the same time. And it had to be bright pink…..

Thanks, I am pretty much back to normal, although I will have to live with a certain level of constant pain until the menopause. Still, at least it wasn’t Cancer!! It’s funny, the difference between boys and girls – the girls work in silence and concentrate totally on the work in hand. The boys chat incessantly, laughing and being silly and consequently take longer, but seem to enjoy it just as much. I don’t want it to feel like school, so I let them each do it their own way as long as safety isn’t compromised:)

Isn’t it amazing how if you tell children that they can do stuff off they go and give it a go …a lesson we should all follow,
Love the bobble hats 🙂

It is and I wonder when we lose that instinct? Probably as adults when we have others to think about rather than just ourselves. I’d love to go sky diving, but wouldn’t take the risk whilst I have young children that need me. There’s got to be a certain amount of fear of failure, too, and what others may think. Interesting.

I wonder if it depends on the activity?when Beloved tells me I’m quite capable of helping with the cottage renovations I believe him and just get on with it …I removed the bathroom and kitchen myself, perhaps if someone else believes in you, you believe in yourself, if that’s the case we should all encourage each other to succeed ❤

YAY! Great to hear all healthy. Have been thinking about you. Yep, there’s a real psychology linked to colour. Maybe we can invent some glasses that make the wool look our favourite colour as we knit it? There’s one for Dragon’s Den 😉

Sounds as if your hospital stay wasn’t too long, and am grateful you’re able to get right back to your usual schedule – cram-jam full! Your pompoms are lovely, along with the hats! Agree that kids don’t have any difficulty with things if they’re not predisposed to thinking they’re difficult. Take good care & don’t over-do (sorry if I sound like a worrier!). X

Maybe I should have stayed overnight instead of being a day patient because, of course, I’m going to over do it – I’m a woman!! Things just go right back to normal, don’t they? Kids are wonderful like that and we’ve always let ours test their own limits. You should have seen my mother in law’s face when I let my eleven month old son walk downstairs on his own! He fell, of course, but I was there to catch him at the bottom. He kind of rolled down, didn’t hurt himself in the least so there were no tears but he crawled down backwards after that!!

I won’t mention the wine… I will mention the daffodils, they look beautiful – is it spring?! Also loving those pom pom hats! I think you’re right, if you tell a child they can do something they can do it. Hmm interesting. When do we lose that state of mind?!

You just did mention the wine!!! It is interesting about kids and their attitude – I’ve replied to some of the other comments so won’t repeat myself but you can read them if you want. Daffs always make me smile so we fill the house with them for as long as we can get them:)

Love your hats, super pattern, and the pompoms are perfect.
Wine, what wine? I hardly noticed it, I just saw the gorgeous bunch of daffodils on the table. What a perfect way to cheer up any day.
Have a good week and enjoy. 🙂

Thanks Joey, all is well on the health front and, being a woman, we don’t have time to be ill, do we, so just bounce back and get stuck back in! We have so many flowers in the house at the moment, plus two large Poinsettias that are still looking great from Christmas, so it’s very cheerful chez nous!

That pink yarn made me stop and say in awe “wow”. It will look fabulous in that sweater. What a lovely week. Glad that hospital issue is behind you and prayers that you are healing well. I’ve got some avacados in the fridge and now I know what to do with them. Hubs and I are low-carbing this month and I’m already down 11 pounds. That recipe you showed is just the thing to use those up. I’ll stop and get shrimp on the way home. Loved your week!

My goodness what a week! Those pockets are perfect for the pants, I think….and not too difficult for the kids. Youngsters are amazingly fearless, aren’t they? (Wonder if it’s possible to recapture that) So glad you’re up and around already, hope you continue to get better and better. (Wine will certainly help, not that I saw any in your photos….) Love the giant pompoms, love that cardigan! And that pitcher of glorious daffodils!! Lovely, busy week.

I’ve been thinking that I might give the boys the option of making them in flannel without any pockets as pyjamas in the first instance. They could then move on to trying the pockets for a second pair. Thanks for your kind comments:)

I’m pleased to hear that your surgery went well and that you are already “back on your feet” so to speak. Those flower are beautiful and so is that lovely pink silk. It’s nice to be making something for a holiday. Interestingly enough, the friend I gave the pretty sewing-themed wallet and coin purse to is living in Spain for a year. I like that coincidence.

Yes, I remember you saying that it was going to Spain – I like that coincidence, too. My Auntie lives there so we go over at least once a year for a couple of weeks. I hope I can get it finished in time, although I’ve already ripped it back to the beginning once!

I am thrilled that your surgery went well. If the pain gets to be to much I hope you will get medicine from the doctor. Healing doesn’t go well if you have too much pain. I love all of your bobble hats. Every time I see one I ask myself if I good make one or a pair of socks! LOL Take care of yourself and hug the hubby and kiddos!
