  1. Lovely, just the thing for the weather we’re having lately and congrats for reaching a milestone post too.

  2. Some great photos of you over there on the network. It looks lovely and cosy – a bit like wrapping yourself in kittens only not as bitey and scratchy 😉 (That vision only came to me as I am regularly wrapped in kittens these days – I can’t get on with my knitting!)

    • Thank you on both counts! 200 posts doesn’t seem possible in less than two years, but I must have kept to my goal of two posts each week. Sunday Sevens definitely helped:)

  5. LOVE your gilet! That faux fur looks so thick! When I was growing up these used be called ‘body warmers’ or was that just in my uncool family?

  7. Looks soooo cosy! I bet it’s really light to wear too. I once sewed with fur – it was all over the house, but worth it! 🙂

    • It’s not that light as it’s very thick fabric, but definitely cosy! I was pretty strict with myself about containing the fur fallout and pulled the loose bits from the seams as I went along, so it could have been much worse.

  10. I was really impressed by how much skill went into making this gilet Sheila – and the furry mess left behind must have been quite a lot too. I’m not a fan of fur faux or otherwise, but it does look really nice on you! Congrats on 200 posts .

    • Thanks Pauline, fur isn’t for everyone but I love it! It was quite simple once I took the side front and side back seams out of the equation – you have to keep the shape basic when working with faux fur.

Love the gilet. It looks so cosy and warm, and the lining makes it look really luxurious and expensive. 🙂

  15. You did such a nice job on that and it looks so warm. So…across the pond we’d call it a fur vest – which is pretty much anything like a coat without sleeves. Uncouth I know! I’ve never even heard the term “gilet”. Can you write it out phonetically so I can see how it sounds? Did you consider clips vs. pins to hold everything together (like Clover Wonder Clips) and if so, why did you opt for pins? Obviously they worked fine but I’d heard to use clips on thick fabrics like fur. Did you use a special sewing foot? I have so many questions because I was supposed to sew hubs a Santa Suit last Christmas but opted out and purchased one for him because the faux fur sent me running scared. Love the lining!

    • Thanks Becky, a gilet is pronounced “zheelay” – kind of like a soft ‘j’, as in the French ‘bonjour’. A vest in the UK is a sleeveless undergarment. I suppose clips and a walking foot would have been useful, but I didn’t have any problems with a normal foot and pins! Quite frankly, I’m too lazy to keep changing the foot unless I have to and the pin thing is just forty years of habit – I don’t even own any clips:)
