Better late than never, here is this week’s Sunday Sevens!
1. Is Summer ever going to come to England? Eleven degrees centigrade and it felt chilly enough to light the fire. I haven’t abandoned the flip flops just yet though.
2. Working on prototypes for a commercial commission and my table looks like this. Why can’t I be a tidy sewer?
3. We walked to the pub in the rain – again.
4. This gorgeous yarn arrived from the USA.
5. It’s going to be a laceweight, circular baby shawl – if I can ever work it out. I’ve frogged it twice already.
6. A nightshirt and pyjamas were completed in classes this week.
7. Remember the shop window with the cardboard city from a couple of weeks ago? Cardboard bird boxes have replaced them, complete with Astro turf and garden birds helping themselves to the top of the milk.
9. I started making some crochet daisies. Just because.
10. No.3 Son won Manager’s Player of the Year for his outstanding goalkeeping this season.
11. No.3 Son posing for a photo at Hauser and Wirth Gallery in Bruton.
14. At the bar inside, I just HAD to try their homemade Dill Gin.
15. My daughter in her new car. It suits her, don’t you think?
If you fancy joining in Sunday Sevens, visit Nat at Threads & Bobbins where you can find out how to take part. As you can see, it doesn’t have to be on a Sunday or seven photos…..

Lovely photos, as always, Sheila! Congratulations to that cute young man in the bow tie! 🎉 Goodness, I looked at my box & fabric-strewn sewing table last week & thought, agh!. Yours is lovely by comparison! 😉 What cute new makes your young sewers have & aren’t they pleased as rightly they should be ~ so adorable! Would gladly exchange weather with you these next 7 days, as extreme heat advisories begin. Long sigh at sight of your cheery fire… Have a grand rest of your week! ☀️

He insisted on wearing the bow tie – no one else was wearing a tie! It has been hot and sunny today, 16 degrees Celsius, although probably nothing compared to what you’re used to, lol.

You’re right about the heat. Amazing that he wanted to wear the tie! Is he also the sewer? (Sorry, can’t remember.) Certainly sartorial. 😘

Yes, although they both sew – there weren’t enough spaces in my weekly lessons for both of them, unfortunately.

Your Sunday Sevens are always worth waiting for! Another ace week! Good luck with the baby shawl, that yarn looks so soft just on the screen, I can almost feel it. Well done to the Goalie! H is the goalie too for his team and it can be a thankless task, so glad No 3 son got recognition for his efforts 🙂

Thanks Ali, I’m glad you think so as I almost didn’t bother posting this week! The yarn is soft but not at all fluffy as I think baby things should be smooth and fluff free. No.3 Son decided he wanted to be a goalkeeper at the end of last season and has taken to it like a duck to water. The manager said he couldn’t have been more deserving, which was nice to hear. He got Man of the Match for his first three games and then the Manager said he ought to start sharing it around!

Aw, if he deserves it they should keep giving it no matter how many times!
On a different note I’m off to the Sewbrum meet up in September. Wondered if you fancied going? It’s probably about half way between us (my geography is rubbish), I’m going to go down in the train. 😀

It’s about three hours to Birmingham- what is Sewbrum and when?

It’s the 24th Sept, and is a big meet up in Birmingham, and to Guthrie & Ghani just a short bus ride out of Birmingham. I’ve read about it the last couple of years but was working so couldn’t go. I’m off this year so going to go. Here’s the link for it……..

I’ve been looking at trains, it’s 2 hours for me from Leeds, or 2 1/2 in the car. Think I’ll get the train, I’ll be too tired to drive after all that shopping and talking! 😀

I’m thinking I’ll get Bruce to drive – he can have a day out with the boys and we can maybe stay in a b+b. All in the name of research, you understand:)

Oh wow, only 11 degrees Celsius? Where I live it’s nearly 100 degrees Fahrenheit (or 37 degrees Celsius)! Lovely photos! That car really does suit your daughter!

Yep, that’s why today’s 16 degrees is positively balmy by comparison! Obviously our very high humidity makes it feel warmer, but it also means that 37 degrees over here would be unbearable as its not dry heat like elsewhere. The hottest I remember was 36 degrees when I was pregnant with No.2 Son eleven years ago – totally excruciating and I slept all night directly on the grass to try and get cool!

Had to light our log burning stove too! Was the dill gin nice? I love gin and dill but can’t imagine them together.

It was horrible that day, last Tuesday I think, and the fire just had to be lit! I had to try the Dill Gin when I saw it and, yes, it was lush!

late, as opposed to never is always good 😉 Another packed week! Congrats to your son, to gain so many awards…he’s obviously amazing in his chosen position! Another fabulous creative day by your sewing students ~ they are Ab Fab!!! Summer may arrive eventually ;-/ I reckon if Mini get a copy of this pic, they should enlist your daughter to advertise their cars! Love the artistic work of art too 😉 Good luck with the frogging, I have no doubt you will master the design and pattern 🙂

Love getting your Sevens! Congrats to the aspiring young professional soccer player! I’d call it Football…but I just can’t. I’m in Texas and calling soccer “football” is sacrilegious. It’s part of our code over here. That alpaca yarn looks dreamy – love your language and I’m going to begin using it. In fact, I just frogged a dress and tossed it. My husband said, “What are you doing?” “Wasting time and money.” “What?” “Sewing”. LOL 11C in JULY? Oh goodness. Our heat index here is 108F. I recall being stationed in the Azores, Portugal in Sept 1998 after 27 straight days over 100F here in Texas. It was 72F when we landed and I like to froze to death those first few months until my blood thickened up. That 30 degree difference was a shock! Dill Gin – I’m intrigued. My flavor is Bombay Sapphire Gin (original) with Fresca. Love, love, love. Great post!

So sorry to hear about your lack of summer–I hope it finds you eventually! I have to agree with the other commenter who thought your “mess” looked awfully tidy. I think it’s the nature of sewing to be a little bit messy simply because there are so many items you need to have close at hand while you’re doing it–pattern pieces, instructions, tools, etc., etc. It helps me to keep the mess under control that I have a cat that will pick up and steal anything small that she can get hold of, so things like pins, seam ripper, bobbins have to be put away each night or I will lose them!

I would love to be organised as I work, but it just never turns out like that! I’m in the zone and get too immersed in what I’m doing to tidy as I go:)

Never trust a tidy sewer. Or is it never trust a thin chef? Or both? Either way, your mess looks more like a work in progress than the sort of confusion I can get in to.
If it makes you feel any better, the weather here in the South-West of France has been pants so far – although not cold just more rain than usual.
I do admire you braving it out by wearing flip flops even in front of a log fire and, even more of course, your steely determination to get to the pub come rain or shine 😉
Your daughter does look good in her new car – it looks as if she has dressed to coordinate with it too 🙂

Well, nothing comes between a woman and her gin, certainly not a drop of rain! Never trust anyone that doesn’t like wine? Youngsters do like wearing black, don’t they? She came straight from work, but I rarely wear black and never used to for work. A bright red boucle skirt suit was my most worn outfit. I’ve still got it but I can’t get into it ten years and two more children on:)
