Sunday Sevens is a weekly blog series run by Nat over at Threads & Bobbins – click on the link to find out more and how you can join in.
1. The moment that Charlotte was announced as the winner in series four of the Great British Sewing Bee. So close this year, it could have been any one of the three finalists.
2. N0.1 Son treated us to a pub lunch as a belated Father’s Day treat.
3. Being a very rural school, each classroom has its own set of oft-worn wellies stored upside down on racks outside. I thought they made a pleasing picture.
4. Inspired by my cross body bags, a student made her own version. Isn’t it pretty?
5. Woody Bay steam trains – a must, if you have boys and are ever in the Barnstaple area.
6. We bought First Class tickets and travelled in relative luxury compared to the wooden benches in cattle class!
7. The plush buttoned head rests were even adorned with individual cut-work panels, which were lovely.
8. After looking at another b+b, we walked down to the local beach. Just a twelve minute stroll from the building is this secluded bay. Perfect for an evening barbecue for potential guests staying with us on a residential sewing retreat?
9. No.3 Son was straight in the sea.
10. Sunday was Sports Day in our house. Watching two Brits win the men’s single and mixed doubles finals was a nice way to spend the day with visiting tennis-mad family. I laid on a cream tea spread to enjoy, with plenty of strawberries and cream. Well, it was Wimbledon, after all.
I went to bed and left them watching the Euro football final. I think Portugal may have won?

I picked Charlotte to win a few weeks ago, I should have placed a bet!

I’m so excited about hosting sewing retreats when we eventually move. Won’t be for a while yet, though, as these things take time.

Well, sunshine can’t be guaranteed but a view like the one from the B+B is stunning whatever the weather!

We have big plans….maybe too big? B+B foremost, sewing/knitting/crochet retreats to follow, all being well. Need to finish this house and get it on the market first though:)

It looks like you had a lovely week. The upside down wellies gave me a laugh. our schools are so huge I could never see that happening here. I would have loved to ride the train. my luck I would have had to ride in the cattle call section!!! lol

I’ve seen the wellies so often and never took any notice, but they made a lovely photo. The Boys loved the steam train and it was worth the extra to sit in the ‘posh’ car:)

Your sewing student did a fab job with her cross bodied bag and looks ever so pleased with it 🙂 The Boys look like they all enjoyed the steam trains and worth the extra for a bit of luxury during the ride 😉 Another gem of a location for a potential b&b!

Mr H-L was going to pay even more to ride up front with the driver but we didn’t get back in time for the last ride. An excuse to go back when we move there. This B+B was probably the best one we have seen so far but it’s such a long process…

Lovely week for you – grand bag from your student, some good telly watching, and a lovely possible location for a b&b/sewing retreat. Yes, please!

I’m so excited about owning a guest house, I can’t tell you! It’s just the process to get there that is so difficult.

Yes, process can be very tedious & take a lot of time… but we know in sewing how very necessary it all is. (Although we do sigh sometimes…😉)

Love the Woody Bay photos – those dogs of yours certainly get around don’t they? I’m glad to see Fifi has been able to discard the cone of shame and is looking bright and breezy again.
Is it possible that Mr. Sewchet managed to stretch out Fathers’ Day even longer than I stretched out my birthday? 😉

Fifi has a new lease of life since the tumour was removed and she’s acting like a puppy again. You should have seen her in the sea at Woody Bay! We just hadn’t managed to get to the pub together before last week for the meal. Worth the wait, though – beer battered fish and chips was amazing:)

Oh a sewing retreat sound lovely. My parents contemplated b and b ing to bring in a little extra money but it is so much work. Would be cool if you manage to get it to work.

We’re under no illusion about the amount of work it takes to run a guest house, but it’s a lifestyle choice for us, like most b+b owners. At least we’d be working together instead of Bruce being in London all the time. The sewing/yarny retreats would be a bonus!

I love the wellies 😀. Wow, a sewing retreat sounds like a huge amount of fun, although I’m sure there will a lot of hard work to put into it. The way your academy is going I’m sure it would be a great success 😃

Teaching sewing just doesn’t feel like a job at all because I love it so much – a retreat would be doing more of what I love, so not hard ‘work’, hard ‘play’!

Love the welly rack, but the wellies look huge, is it an optical illusion? Good luck with the B&B hunting, can’t wait to be able to go on sewing retreats 😀
