Sunday Sevens is on time this week, with only eight photos, too, largely due to not having a phone to take snaps when out and about, but let’s not drag all THAT up again…….!
Visit Nat at Threads & Bobbins to find out more and how you can join in.
1. The daisies are now all starched and holding their shape beautifully, so just the chain to finish now before I can hang it on the dresser.
2. I was watching Phil Spencer’s Secret Agent programme in the week and the ‘before’ picture showed the exact same Axminster carpet that we have as a rug in our lounge! They were advised to rip it up because it looks like a pub carpet, but it works as a rug on our oak floor. Isn’t it funny how the same carpet can present so differently according to how you decorate?
3. This little girl finished her pyjamas on Thursday and has worn them every night since – she even went home in them after posing for this photo!
4. I couldn’t resist these cute Robin fat quarters. As you might have guessed by now, I LOVE Robins and these will make something Christmassy.
5. It’s impossible to get a decent photo of your dog enthusiastically tearing open her birthday present, but here is Tess on her third birthday with Fifi looking on enviously in the background.
6. My favourite kind of parcel! A bag arrived from Wool Warehouse with yarn for my next commission. I WILL finish the shawl first – only 55 more pattern repeats out of 120 to go.
7. I have a new phone! Exactly the same as the ‘old’ one and Mr H-L is now banned from touching it. Hopefully, there will be some photos outside of the house next week now I have a phone again.
8. While I’ve been writing this post, I managed to burn the cake that was in the oven – oops!
A reminder that Stitching Santa 2016 is now open for sign up until 30th October – click on this link to find out more.

Phones!!! Mr E decided mine would improve if he returned it to it’s factory settings. What was I thinking of? Everything has changed or gone missing. Good luck with your new one. Impressed with the pjs. Sorry about the cake. I went on a long walk and totally forgot the cake in the oven. Infuriating! Have a good week.

Hubby cut off the top burnt layer and is currently eating a slice of what’s left with clotted cream, so it’s not a total disaster!

It was odd not to have a phone for a week and I’m glad to have another one. Just the same, as I don’t do change well when it comes to technology! Hubby scraped the burnt layer off and promptly had a slice with clotted cream, so not too disastrous in the end.

Love your daisies, very pretty! I couldn’t have resisted the robins either, I’m a sucker for Christmas stuff 🙂

I think it is absolutely marvelous that you teach children to sew. That is a gift that will last a lifetime and provides more than knowlegde of fabric and thread. You create an innate sense of self-reliance and rugged individualism. The confidence of making a simple pair of jammie pants provides children with optimism and pride. That’s why she’s wearing them every day – because SHE did it herself. Those characteristics are sorley lacking today and when you feel like you can do anything, you see life through the prism of the glass being half full instead of half empty. You are a true angel Shiela. 🙂

All of that is so true Becky; it’s the self confidence that grows and promotes the feeling of being able to tackle anything, not just make your own clothes. I like to think that all my students have grown in confidence since they started sewing, especially as our motto is “There are no mistakes – only lessons learned”.

On another note, you might consider backing up your photos on the iCloud. Then you’ll have some waiting for blog posts if your phone ever crashes again. Next go, get an Android device like a Samsung so you can save all your photos to a chip. If the phone dies, the chip is still good to put into another phone. My mom’s Android died and she got another refurbished one for $80 at the AT&T store. They swapped the chip and she had all contacts, pics, and documents in a snap. It does all the fancy stuff her original one did but for a fraction of the cost. Also, I back my Android up to an external hard drive once a month too. You ca’t do that with an iPhone.

Luckily, my photos are all in The Cloud and my SIM card just went from my old phone into my new one, so nothing has been lost. We back up our iPhone stuff to iTunes, so I think we’re doing everything right – except checking pockets before they go in the washing machine!

You’ll all have curly hair after your well done cake, that’s what my mum used to tell us! Happy birthday fighlie-woggle! And happy new shiny Iphone. The hubby’s had an iPhone since they first came out and not had any mishaps until his current one, and he’s on his 4th screen! 😳

I’ve not heard that one about burnt cakes and curly hair before, or perhaps it’s one your mum made up because she burnt cakes on a regular basis?! It wasn’t wasted because hubby sliced off the top layer and we ate the rest warm with clotted cream. Mr H-L is a disaster when it comes to phones which is why I was always warning him not to touch mine. He won’t now, after he paid for a new one:)

So glad to see your phone’s been replaced. I’d be lost and so frustrated without mine. Plus my Sunday sevens would be pictureless too!
I love it when the postman brings yarn – they’re my favourite kind of parcels too :-).
Your young student’s pjs are lovely – no wonder she’s slept in them ever since!
Hope the cake didn’t taste to bad 😉

I didn’t miss the phone because I hardly use it anyway, mainly for taking pics when out and about for Sunday Sevens! It’s nice to have it back though. Yarny parcels are always good, even if they are for commissions. The cake was all eaten after the burnt layer was scraped off and no one complained – they wouldn’t dare!

Thanks – Sunday Sevens can now continue! Daisies are now up and brightening up the dresser even more. I’m making bobble hats with the yarn – two down, two to go. They’re proving to be a little light relief in between working on the shawl:)

I know, and the starching was pretty quick and simple that I don’t know why I’ve procrastinated for so long. The garland is up and looking quite nice on the dresser now.

The daisy garland is in pride of place on the blue dresser and it makes me smile every time I look at it. I don’t really use the mobile much, but I was worried about missing bookings for the half term workshops which had just gone out. New project is bobble hats for four young children.

I would be lost without my phone. I’m glad to see you are back in business. Sorry about the burnt cake. What a shame.
Your pooches are adorable, and so are your daisies. You are gifted at so many things. Enjoy the week.

It was weird in a good way not having a phone for a week. I didn’t get my first one ’til I was about thirty, so I’m not part of the generation that’s glued to them all the time and often don’t know where it is anyway! Daisies are up and looking pretty on the dresser and the cake didn’t go to waste with my lot:)

It is weird not having a phone or device, but I agree with you that it’s weird in a good way. My laptop was dropped and broken recently, and I have to admit that while I was very upset and angry about it, it’s been a good thing to not have it anymore.

What a great week. The daisies are looking cute and cheerful.
I totally agree with you on the carpet, it works for me. It is a lovely carpet, and if you do it right, it will look great.
Congrats on the new phone, all the best with resetting it with everything, but so worth it.
Hugs and kisses to the little Birthday baby! xx
Have a great week. 🙂

Thank you Joey:)
The SIM card was just transferred to the new phone so nothing was lost. It’s just a case of restoring up from iTunes – if I ever get around to it. Can’t believe Tess is three already, the years fly by just like they do with kids.

Love your new fabric! Who is the designer or the line? Robins are the best…. Your cake was certainly good even if a little bit burnt…

I don’t know who the designer is, but the fabrics were part of a fat quarter bundle in Hobbycraft. The cake was fine underneath and it was all eaten so it couldn’t have been that bad:)

I put the timer on but neglected to turn the oven down after cooking something in it at a higher temperature just before. I love her PJs, too, and am always amazed at what such young children can achieve.

I love the daisies – I hope you will show us them in situ. I made a chain of daisies for my art room, but they have gone a bit limp – I didn’t even know starch was an option! Did you use the spray on stuff or something more complex? Love your rug [and have my eye on a fireplace exactly like the one you have] hate the carpet in the house on the telly. It is fascinating what a good eye can do!
