It’s been a few weeks since I last did a Sunday Sevens round-up so, rather than recap on all that’s happened in that time, I’ll start afresh with this last week or so. Linking up with Nat at Threads & Bobbins.
1. Well, except this one – No.1 Son turned 24 a couple of weeks ago and we had a family get together at my mother’s.
2. I was gifted a button box – what treasure!
3. I procrastinated for too long over this fab cocktail cabinet in the charity shop. Went back to buy it, but it had been sold:(
4. A rare pic of my four beautiful (I’m biased) children. Didn’t manage to get them together with my step-daughters at the same time, unfortunately.
5. I’ve been nipping over to my daughter’s new home to do a bit of painting whilst she’s at work. This is the first home that she has bought with her boyfriend, so we’re trying to help where we can as there’s not much money left after the house purchase to buy anything.
Luckily, the previous owner left lots of solid furniture which just needs updating with a lick of paint. This table has had its first coat.
6. Horse riding selfie! I’m wearing the knitted, sequinned hat that Claire (Mollie & Claire) made me in my Stitching Santa parcel.
7. Mr H-L bought us matching number plates for our His ‘n’ Hers Mercedes. Cue the mid-life crisis jokes……!
8. Continuing my Teal Phase, my yoga jumper is coming on a treat. Check out the neat raglan sleeve armhole!
9. Sunday Sewing today – I’m making some boxer shorts for Mr H-L from this wicked jersey featuring different ice cream flavours.
10. I NEVER trace patterns as a rule but, as the pattern is sized from young boys up to extra large men’s, thought it would be worth the effort in case I decide to make some for The Boys too.
11. I don’t know about you, but when I’m ‘in the zone’ sewing, time flies and all thoughts of cooking meals go out of the window. Mr H-L rose to the challenge and made a lovely pie from a pheasant that I boiled up last night.
12. Just one last photo to share…..I’ve lusted after a Mulberry Bayswater handbag for years now but could never justify spending so much. Mr H-L only went and surprised me with one for Christmas! If you’re a handbag fiend yourself, you’ll understand:)

I just love your Sunday Sevens! So great to see all your children together – doesn’t your daughter look like you! I wonder what that feels like, all my children look like their Dad.
Your daughter’s new home offers many up-cycling opportunities! I’ve become a bit obsessed with a couple of TV programmes recently – ‘Money for Nothing’ BBC and ‘Find it, Fix it, Flog it’ Channel4.

Yes, she’s the spitting image of me at that age, only with blonde hair instead of dark. Mum told me about ‘Money for Nothing’ but I haven’t had chance to watch it yet. I remember being excited about buying my first home way back in the 80s and it’s fun to help her do her home all these years later.

Yes, memories of Granny’s button box have left pleasant marks on most of us, I suspect!

I think all of us crafters cherish the thought of a button box, even if we know we’ll never use most of them. Nostalgia is a wonderful thing.

My mum saved a button from my very first coat ~ it’s now part of my inherited button collection, as you rightly say nostalgia is most definitely part of a button collections charm

I’ve missed your Sunday Sevens. Belated Happy Birthday to No 1 son. When you said you were going to your daughter’s to paint, it sounded as if you were secretly painting things without her knowing ;–)

Aw, thanks Bekki! No, wouldn’t dare paint without permission – might get something wrong!

Glad you’re back! I’ve missed you too! Happy birthday number one, and you’re not biased at all, you’ve a gorgeous family! The family pic is one to treasure, you can tell which ones came out of the same stable 😀

Thanks Ali:) No.3 Son is the only one who’s not obviously mine (blue eyes, dainty nose), although he is the spitting image of my late brother at the same age.

Like me, you are lucky enough to have a husband who can (and will) cook if you ‘forget the time’ which, funnily enough, I seem to do quite often.
Love the fabric for the boxers – will they be modelled when finished? 😉

It’s a combination of hubby liking to cook and hating to be hungry which culminates in his tendancy to take over if I forget the time! Boxers are already finished and I even had enough for a second pair which are also finished. He has modelled them, too! As it’s a sponsored post for Minerva, I can’t blog about them until mid Feb though.

You have an amazing family! And that pie looks so yummy! I’d appreciate a slice right now since I just “came out of the zone”. 😀

Do you get the munchies after coming out of the zone, too? It was delicious – and tasted even nicer because I didn’t have to make it:)

I bet it did. I think I only come out of the zone because I’m hungry… 😀

Thanks Lucie – I still can’t quite believe I own one at last! It’s good to hear from you – hope your work/life balance is working well for you, although I’m sure I’m not the only one who misses your presence here:)

Family get togethers are fewer and far between as the years go by, so they are much treasured. The kids certainly managed to pick out the good-looking genes – biased though I may be:)

An awesome post, with stunning photos and happenings. Its so nice to get furniture with a place you bought, and you get to make it your own. Awesome.
Love the bag, and the cars and numberplates. 🙂 You only get around to a mid life crisis once, so why not? 🙂
Enjoy and have a good time.

Thanks Joey – we’re reining it in a bit now, as I think we’ve spoiled ourselves plenty!! Mid life crisis is a funny term really – it’s only when your kids are older that you’ve got a bit of spare cash to buy these things!

They really are, and they get rarer as the years go by, unfortunately. A button box is every sewers dream, I think.
