Art Gallery “Coco” Dress

I have worn my Stag’s head Coco lots.

I mean LOTS.

So much so that I just had to make another one as its simply perfect for everyday wear. It’s also a bit, well, nicer than the alternative of jumper-and-leggings for this time of year. I don’t make much effort in the clothes stakes, if I’m honest, and this belies that just a little.

Both pattern and fabric can be found at Minerva Crafts online.

This is such a quick and simple dress to make up that a couple of hours had it completed.

The seams were overlocked, as were the raw edges. Although, strictly speaking, there is no need to finish the raw edges on knit fabrics like this.

I had to nip out and buy a few more twin needles though, as my (relatively new) one was skipping stitches. This did the trick immediately and the hems and neckline were top stitched without a skipped stitch OR tunnelling in sight!

Very soon, another Coco found it’s way into my wardrobe.

A quick snap of me wearing it, thanks to my ever patient husband.

Did you spot THE boots…..?

  1. This is a great version Sheila – that fabric is just gorgeous. The Coco dress is so easy to wear (and make) isn’t it and a comfy but slightly smarter alternative to jeans or leggings. I must dig mine out – I made a few but think my daughter snuck off with a couple of them. I do usually adapt the pattern to make the neckline slightly more scoopy (made up word) as that suits me better than a high neckline . I did spot the boots of course – I am wearing mine today too – I love ’em!

    • I usually have a much lower neckline too, as I have a big bust, but the busy pattern does a good job of hiding it and a higher neckline is less draughty for this time of year! I haven’t been as small as my daughter for years so there’s no danger of losing my clothes to her!!

  3. Love the fabric!! Doesn’t winter seem to go on and on forever? At least you have a lovely new dress you’ll get lots of wear out of during the next 2 to 3 months (is it really that long to wait till the temps rise again?). Great make.

  5. That looks great on you! I wish I could pull off wearing the coco but doubt it as too high a neckline

  6. I love the Coco dress a lot. The fabric that you chose for each dress is perfect. I am partial to blue so of course I love the blue one with the bunnies more. You are rockin those boots! Love them.

    • Thanks Robin, the Stag one is still my favourite, but this comes a close second! There’s so much to look at on the fabric that it takes the eye away from the less than perfect figure beneath:)

  10. Sheila..It looks fab!! I love that you took time to arrange the fabric print so the bunnies took precedence in the overall finish 🙂 It’s a look that I wear daily – dress, leggings and boots – smart enough to nip out in and comfy enough to work in too, just I buy super cheap instead of making;-) Your boots look wonderful, what a great find! I hope there was enough fabric to make Mr. H-L’s boxers?? Just think…you will be able to co-ordinate dress on outings, and, no-one else will ever know lol 😉

  12. What gorgeous fabric, Sheila. That is my kind of dress (jumper), too. You just pull it on and go. I love the easy comfort of knits and find that the majority of my wardrobe has gone that route. You’ve done a masterful job placing the print, too. The bunnies are just right.

  13. Very nice. And I’m sure you could get away with wearing the teal boots even if there wasn’t any tall in the dress. They match with the navy
