1. The wallpaper for the downstairs loo arrived and is even better than it looked online. Can’t wait for it to be finished!

2. The obligatory pancakes were served up to the family on Shrove Tuesday.

3. This half-finished lampshade has been picked up and is well on the way to being completed at last – only a year after I first started it and it’s been sat on top of the piano ever since, reminding me!

4. Hubby took me out for lunch after the disappointment of having to watch him eat last week when I was recovering from a bug.

5. We also managed to pop out for breakfast one morning in between some marathon sewing sessions.

6. If you follow me on Instagram, you will have seen lots of posts recording my progress on our fancy dress outfits last week. My sister had a Glastonbury festival themed 50th birthday party, and I made all of our costumes.

The Boys were Shirley Bassey and Freddie Mercury.

7. We went as Dolly Parton and Tom Jones.

8. I tried to recreate Shirley’s and Dolly’s outfits as closely as possible to the ones that they wore when performing at Glastonbury. It was also 80’s fancy dress, so I decided to make Freddie’s most iconic look. Mr H-L grew his goatee like Tom’s and we even sprayed his hair to make it more evenly grey.

9. My dear sister snapped this pic of me the morning after, looking the worse for wear after a BRILLIANT night.

10. Cooked breakfast, roast dinner AND a Chinese takeaway in the evening was what it took to make me feel better!!

  1. Brilliant costumes! I love the morning after photo – is that a mostly empty bottle of wine AND a glass of mouthwash? 😉 I felt like that on Sunday but couldn’t possibly have faced any of that food until well into the evening.

    • Yeah, I have my sister to ‘thank’ for the morning after photo – I’m the one who never suffers from a hangover so she thought it was hilarious and the sign of a good night! There were half empty bottles everywhere, but I have no idea what the blue stuff is. My body told me to stuff my face the next day, probably to soak up all the alcohol:)

  2. Wonderful costumes! The boys really made me laugh. Never realised Mr H-L looked so much like Tom Jones. Glad to see you’ve got your appetite back again 🙂

  3. Brilliant costuming! Everyone looked exactly as they should have and the diamante gumboots (wellingtons) rocked the whole show! I’m truly amazed you were even upright the morning after! Well done to you!!

    • Thanks Pauline, I tried to get the details just right and it seemed to work as everyone knew who were dressed up as straight away. I will admit to being horizontal on the sofa most of the next day, nursing a bit of a headache and queasy tummy:)

  5. Fantastic costumes, I can’t believe you got all that done in such a short space of time – you really are a marvel. Cooked breakfast, roast dinner and a Chinese sounds like the perfect cure to a ‘big’ night before! 😊

  6. Oh dear, the morning after pic really goes say it all. I bet you were a good dancer and singer tho, and did dolly proud! I love dressing up, my sis once had a stars in their eyes party years ago, maybe it’s time for another! 😃

  7. Lovely week, and those costumes are marvellous! (Sorry about the day after slow down!) Don’t feel so bad about leaving some of my own projects for a bit… but cannot imagine makinga crocheted lampshade! What was your inspiration? Pattern??

  8. Certainly looked like a lot of fun! Your costumes look brilliant! Extra brownie points for having a son who knows Shirley Bassey!

    • Oh my goodness, fun isn’t the word – it was the best fancy dress party I’ve been too in years! Having a great costume is always an issue as we don’t feel right if we only have a half-hearted stab at dressing up. I’m not sure The Boys knew who Shirley Bassey was but they both love Queen. Neither batted an eyelid when I suggested their characters.

Your wall paper is amazing😃 We have big red fish swimming across our bathroom walls, I love it but think it’s a bit bold for Mr B!!

  11. You all looked so “cool” in your fancy dress! Well done on all that sewing. And in no time. You just know how, I am amazed.
I love the wallpaper and am looking forward to seeing the progress. Stunning.
    🙂 Enjoy the week ahead.

    • The sewing part was great fun, especially as I didn’t use any patterns, just used the photos as a guide. Hoping to wallpaper at the weekend – if the plumber and builder have finished by then.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you with the plumber and builder, as I am looking forward to seeing the wallpaper up. It is a stunning design.

    • Oh good, job done then – we love to put a smile on peoples’ faces! The hangover wasn’t so much fun though, I’m getting too old to cope with feeling like that all the next day.

  14. You already know what I think of your amazing costumes but I’m also in love with that wallpaper! And your lampshade! I think that’s an excellent idea.

    • The wallpaper is a bit of fun for a cloakroom – not something I could live with anywhere else in the house, but perfect for the littlest room. I’ve just got to paint the lamp base now, then I’ll show the finished thing.

    • Thanks very much – we do tend to dress up ‘properly’! The standard lamp was an old one being thrown out by my mother and was crying out for a new lease of life. Hopefully they’ll finish the cloakroom by the weekend so I’ll be able to wallpaper – I’m getting impatient now:)

    • I wouldn’t normally start making two costumes from scratch less than 24 hours before they’re needed, but I couldn’t resist The Boys’ last minute pleas! Food is definitely a healer when it comes to hangovers, for me, anyway:)

      • I think you are amazing to have the wherewithal to even do that and make your two youngest sons so happy with lasting memories of such a brilliant night!! It’s also great that you know your best remedies, it must be over 30 years ago since I suffered a hangover that I though may kill me LOL I don’t think I got out of bed for two days…never again! Have you discovered what the frightening blue stuff was yet I wonder ;-0?!
