Sunday Sevens #131

Linking up with Nat at Threads & Bobbins, Sunday Sevens is a weekly blog series showing seven or so photos of your life outside the blog.

1. As Mr H-L was officially working whilst we were in Spain this time, my sister came with us and we spent lots of time together doing ‘girly’ things, like shopping in Mojacar Pueblo…..

2. ….browsing the Tuesday market in Albox….

3…….drinking Pina Coladas at midday…..

4…..late afternoon……

5…..and evening!

6. We spent a lot of time in the pool trying to keep cool both by day….

7…..and night.

8. Good food……

9….good drink…..

10…..and great company.

11. Far too hot for clothes!

12. After trying sheep brains, it was back to more familiar tapas – everybody loves calamari, don’t they?

13. One minute it was there, the next minute there was a hole on my watch bezel where a diamond used to be:(

Luckily I noticed before I went back in the pool, but the condensation had already formed under the face.

14. As usual, our holiday was over too soon and we had to go home – to this!

15. I took mum out for lunch for having the dogs for me.

16. We had family to stay for a few days and they bought me this gorgeous bouquet of lilies and roses.

17. The garden at the side of the house has gone from this…….

18…..to this…….

19. ……to this, so far.

20. Obviously, to ten and eleven year old boys, it’s actually a WWI trench, made all the more authentic by torrential rain and mudslides.

21. One of the first things we did when we got back was to take my watch back to Rolex for a replacement bezel. A day out in Wales was a welcome result and we took a picnic with us.

It poured down.

22. Did that stop us having fun? Of course not – we’re English and rain never stops play!

23. The Boys spent their pocket money on some old cars in a vintage shop.

24. We had a pint and a bag of crisps in a canalside pub in Bradford-on-Avon on the way home.

There are loads more photos, but I’ll stop there as twenty-four is plenty!

Enjoy what’s left of your weekend!

  1. It looks like you’ve thoroughly been enjoying the Summer hols. All that food looks yummy, even the picnic. Looking forward to seeing the finished garden…I know you’ll make it look lovely 🙂

    • Thanks Natalie, I’m not good at gardening but at least some hard landscaping will mean we step out onto decking instead of mud! Summer means picnics, despite the English weather – we’re going camping next week so it’s sure to rain!

    • Holidays with family are always great, aren’t they, especially when they live so far away, as you know only too well. My watch is still at the jeweller’s but no news is good news, as they say. We now have some decking where there used to be mud! Not finished yet, but getting there.

  4. You holiday looks fab and glad you let Mr H-L have a little time off. Also good to see everyone looking equally smiley back at home on the rain. Still, it would be nice if things were a little warmer and dryer.

    • We’re certainly making the most of the school holidays and have been lucky enough to escape to warmer climes a lot this year. Although we try not to let the rain spoil things, it does limit plans a little bit, doesn’t it? It won’t stop us camping next week though. She says……

  5. ‘Rain never stops play’ quote made me smile 🙂 Spain looks amazing and it has water in all the right places! Your trench will morph into something beautiful – can’t wait to see what.

    • Well, when you live in temperate climes you can’t let a drop of rain spoil your plans or you’d never do anything! It is always nice to escape to guaranteed sunshine though, and we’ve been lucky enough to do so a lot this year as we have family both in Spain and France. The trench has transformed into decking but is not yet beautiful as there is no planting as yet. Much better though.

  6. Wonderful to see so many interesting places and such lovely photos. I enjoyed the “week” and all the photos you shared. Just amazing. Thank you.
    Such beautiful flowers.
And I look forward to watching the progress on your garden, I think it is going to be different and interesting. 🙂

    • Glad you enjoyed the photos – I love to see photos of other countries, myself. The landscaping has taken a back seat whilst we’ve been concentrating on the house, so it’s nice to finally see some real progress in the garden.

  8. Looks like you’ve had a wonderful time. Good old British weather is always fun to return to

    • Ha – it did the same when we got back from Paris on Friday! I suppose that’s why we Brits look forward to our holidays in the sun so much, ‘cos it’s not guaranteed at home. And yes, we did have a wonderful time, thank you.

    • Thanks Alys, Spain was great as always, and to spend extended time with my sister was a bonus. The hard landscaping is nearly finished and then it will be on to the fun bit of planting. Although what plants I can expect to survive hens and a football/cricket ball is yet to be decided…..

      • It’s great having sister time, especially when you are away from the day to day chores of life. I had to giggle when you mentioned plants that will survive hens and boys. Perhaps a raised planter is in order, something that will reach higher then the deck. Good luck! I can’t wait to see what comes next. I love renovations.

  10. Hi, long time no comment…..sorry. Of course, me being me, in spite of all the fun moments and renovations and war skirmishes, I was most taken by the fact that you had to go to Wales to have your watch repaired! What a nice day trip. I can’t wait for next summer when we go back there.

    • Yes, it was because hubby bought it for me whilst we were on our wedding anniversary there. We took it back to the same jeweller’s. Day trips to Wales are always nice, but a week or two is even better. How lovely that you’re going back again so soon!
