1. A dog walk ended at our local pub again. This is becoming a case of same photo, different jumper!
2. A quick visit to the only charity shop in town unearthed this brilliant find – a whole basket of Liberty sticky tapes! I bought four rolls but will almost definitely go back for more…if there are any left.
3. A friend’s plea to rescue her from the boredom of being stuck at home due to a knee injury, resulted in a car drive to our new favourite café in Bruton.
4. Our newest student finished her sewing project bag. Looking at the fabric she’s chosen, it should be no surprise that she’s following the boy’s syllabus rather than the girl’s!
5. Popped my head around the corner into the living room and this sight melted my heart.
6. Craftwise, I’m well into the second sock of this pair.
7. Progress on the wedding blanket has been slow this week, but I now have thirty squares, half of which are already blocked and ready to join together. Duck Egg is such a calming colour to work with.
8. Opened the freezer door to find this…..
9. Luke Skywalker frozen from the knees up in an ice cube tray. Boys!
10. We opened our home to paying guests last week and had our first booking on Friday night! Here’s the link to our Air BnB.

I use to live near Martock and I’d go up to Bruton with my godmother to visit her elderly friend. It was my first English experience of trucks in narrow streets!

Thank you, it was a great success which we are hoping won’t be a one off. I know, The Boys constantly amuse and surprise us and just when you think you’ve seen it all, they come up with new ways to delight! Are you originally from foreign climes then, unused to narrow streets? Living on Exmoor, you must be used to far narrower lanes now, than those in Bruton.

I was born near London and went out to NZ to live when I was six. I finally managed to return here in the early nineties when I was in my early thirties. I came for two years!!! 😆

Congratulations on your first paying guests – no surprise they left a good review as the room looks lovely and your grub always looks good in the photos!!
The photo of the boys cuddled up is lovely – memories in the making.
Great find on the Liberty tapes – can I put a small order in if there’s any left next time you go? 😉
Are you sure Mr. H-L and Tess haven’t actually moved in to the pub, perhaps to make room for the paying guests. I imagine them providing him with a little chest of drawers there full of his jumpers 🙂

Had to laugh at the jumper comment, but it is a bit like recycling the same photo each week, isn’t it? Maybe I’ll swap places this week for a change, and be in the photo myself. Thank you for your vote of confidence on our b+b; let’s hope future reviews are as good as this one. It’s so lovely to see The Boys wrapped up in one another like that, long may it last. I’ve already decided to go back to buy more tape if there’s any left:)

Hi! I have recently found your blog and enjoy reading your posts. I want to hear more about this wedding blanket! Love the color. Maybe this will get me going on my first granny square blanket. You have a lovely home. Looks very inviting and comfy, cozy. Love all the beautiful photos and that chandelier is incredible!

Thank you so much, that’s great to hear! The chandelier is a bronze French antique that has been left to verdigris over the decades which we prefer and have decided against polishing it up. I’m crocheting just two different granny square patterns in a single colour and will alternate them when joining to make a, hopefully, interesting blanket. It’s for a young couple in their twenties, so I hope it’s not too old-fashioned for them.

Luke, along with most of their other “mens”, is limb deficient in some way or other – they’ve literally been loved to bits! They can be SO sweet sometimes and to see them being so affectionate with each other just melts my heart. I’m on my third pair of socks this year and a fourth needs to be knitted in the next three weeks for a birthday present, so no slacking off just yet! It was a relief to get a good review under our belt, and on the first booking, too. Let’s hope it’s the first of many.

Do they fight a lot too? I’m curious, because most siblings do – I certainly did with my brother – but yours always look such good friends and my girls were the exception and got on really well.
I’m sure it is a relief to get a good review under your belts, but you’re so thoughtful and have such a good eye for detail, I bet you’re streets ahead of most B&Bs.

No, not fight, more the usual odd frustration that manifests itself as a raised voice. They’ve learnt to walk away from each other for five minutes to calm down – it never comes down to fisticuffs like it did with my brother and me! Thanks for your encouraging comments re the b+b – the competition is tough nowadays and the standard around here is very high, which is not a bad thing as it keeps you on your toes and striving to be even better.

The photo of your boys must have a story behind it – it is quite the most wonderful photo of boys I have ever seen! There’s a lot of good parenting and role modelling going on there Sheila 🙂 These are the moments that make the other moments bearable. Excellent review, of course. I’m so amazed at how quickly you had your first guest. Was it a good experience for you – I’m sure you were a bit nervous….. I also love the soft colour of the wedding blanket. I feel quite inspired to pick up the crochet needle again……

Thank you Pauline, I’m impatient to block the rest of the blocks completed thus far and start crocheting them together, just to see what it looks like.Yes, it was a great experience regarding the B&B and we can’t wait for our next guests. The speed at which we had our first booking almost caught us with our trousers down, so to speak, and we rushed around doing last minute finishing touches. It’s heartwarming indeed to see The Boys being so naturally affectionate with one another and I will treasure this photo forever – and put it under their noses when they fight next time!

Me too, you can imagine my surprise when I saw him in the ice cube! Yes, I teach dressmaking to kids age 6-12. Both my boys can make their own clothes, as well as knit and crochet:)

Thanks Joey, although we live in the country in a tiny village of just 91 homes, we are not isolated and our house is actually on a main road! The setting is lovely though, and the view out the back is unbeatable. I haven’t spent much time on the blanket recently because of my sock obsession, but I’ll need to get back to it or, before I know it, the wedding will be here and I wont have finished! Definitely a touching moment with The Boys. Kids know how to tug at your heart strings, that’s for sure!

From your photos and blog I have learned that your place is just perfect. A small village is so nice. That is why I prefer to live outside the city in an older neighborhood and just face the traffic each day. 🙂
Your socks are beautiful, and making me itch to cast on a pair as well. Good luck with the blanket, I love the Duck Egg blue a lot.
Kids will always do that, mine is out of the house and married and still does it.

We will Joey – Bruce and I are nice and cosy in front of the fire and I have just made some soup for The Boys when they come in. They’re playing in the fields somewhere in the pouring rain and will be ready for a hot meal and warm fire when they eventually decide to return:)

That sounds like the perfect day. I remember as a kid we also played outside on the farm when it rained and loved coming home to a roaring fire in the coal stove and coffee and a warm snack.
It has been raining all morning here in Johannesburg, and a bit of flooding already, but we are very happy for the rain.

Yes, we have two spare bedrooms so decided to try Air BnB – we already have another booking! I wouldn’t describe boys as easy or predictable – I never know what surprise they’re going to throw at me next and I certainly wasn’t expecting Luke in the ice cube tray!! Wouldn’t change a thing about them though – except to stop them growing up so fast:)
